Alumni, current and past parents, and friends of Georgetown Prep are invited to a screening on Wednesday, February 19 at 7:00 p.m., of a new documentary film entitled, Cailloux. Produced by independent filmmakers Dane Moreton and Laura Durr, the documentary is based on the book, A Black Patriot and a White Priest, written by Dr. Stephen J. Ochs.

The screening is part of Prep's observance of Black History Month. The film recounts the story of Captain André Cailloux whose heroic death at the battle of Port Hudson in 1863 made him the first black military hero of the Civil War. Cailloux intertwines his story with that of an outspoken abolitionist Catholic priest in New Orleans, the Rev. Claude Paschal Maistre, who was a staunch supporter of Cailloux and black Union troops.

Prep students will view the film during a school-wide assembly earlier in the day. The 35-minute film will be shown in the learning center of the George and will include a question and answer session with Mr. Moreton, Ms. Durr, and Dr. Ochs. Light refreshments will be available. We look forward to seeing you at 7:00 p.m. on February 19.
