Final Examinations

By Dr. Stephen J. Ochs, Lawler Chair of History

--

The last of the monthly oral and written examinations that had been administered throughout the school year began on May 22 and lasted until June 2. It appears that classes continued to meet following the conclusion of their respective exams until the last one on June 2. As subsequent "Centennial Moments" will illustrate, the exam period was also punctuated by end-of-year occasions and celebrations.

The Exam Schedule [taken from the House Diary]:

May 22 [Saturday]: Examination in Latin Composition.

May 24: Examination in Physical Geography for First Year [Freshmen].

Examination in Physical Geography for Junior Prep [8th Graders].

May 28: Examination in Algebra for First Year.

Examination in Spelling and Penmanship for Junior Preps.

May 29 [Saturday]: Examination in English Precepts for both classes.

May 31: Latin orals for First Year;

English History and Spelling Orals for Junior Prep.

June 1: Written examination in Latin for First Year.

Written Examination in Arithmetic for Junior Prep.

June 2 [Wednesday]: Written examination in Catechism for both First Year and Junior Prep.
