Congratulations to Georgetown Prep's basketball, football, lacrosse, soccer, swimming and diving, and track and field seniors who signed their collegiate letters of intent on April 15.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and public health guidelines, Georgetown Prep could not host its annual spring signing day ceremony in the Robert Southwell, S.J., Library to honor the senior student-athletes and their families.
Like so many firsts in during this pandemic, Prep hosted a virtual signing day ceremony on April 15. At the virtual ceremony, Rev. James R. Van Dyke, S.J., President of Georgetown Prep, welcomed the student-athletes, their families, and coaches to the gathering. Speaking to the senior signees, Fr. Van Dyke said, "The way you treat other people is really what's going to make the difference. Anyone can be a student. Anyone can be an athlete. To be a student-athlete is really a rare exception, but to be a good man, a good man for and with others, makes all the difference."
Dan Paro '79, Prep's Athletic Director and Head Varsity Football Coach, introduced each student-athlete. He noted in his introduction, "You men are what makes Georgetown Prep special. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to Prep. We miss seeing you on campus each day."
Each of the eleven student-athletes spoke movingly about their Prep experience and thanked their family, coaches, and teammates. In his closing remarks, Fr. Van Dyke added, "There are other places in the world that will need your special, unique, and loving talents. And how you treat other people, how you build them up, is how we will make a better world, and how, in many ways, heal from what we are going through right now.
