Eleven Prep students and eleven faculty members represented Georgetown Prep at the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice on November 2-4 in Crystal City, Virginia.
The Ignatian Teach-In is an annual event that gathers hundreds of students from various Jesuit-related institutions. Nearly 2,000 participated in this year's 21st annual Ignatian Teach-In for Justice event.
On Sunday, faculty member Amanda Melder presented "Men for Others in the Age of #MeToo," where she encouraged educators at Jesuit schools, who educate 26,000 boys in an all-male environment nationwide, to reflect on our role in forming men who respect women.
On Advocacy Day, Georgetown Prep was joined by students and faculty from St. Bonaventure's College, a K-12 Jesuit school in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada.
The context of the event is social justice and solidarity and always takes place in conjunction with the anniversary of the Jesuit martyrs of El Salvador.
At the Ignatian Teach-In, students learn, pray, network, and advocate together around social justice issues, and it is an event that empowers, re-energizes and inspires our country's youth who are part of the Ignatian family.
"Known as the largest annual Catholic social justice gathering in the U.S., the Teach-In attracts many young people ages 16-22, representing over 120 Jesuit and other Catholic universities, high schools, and parishes in the U.S., as well as Canada, Mexico, and El Salvador."
